Richard Buckland in a Computer Science Lecturer at the University of New South Wales. I recently came across a video of Richard talking about the ways in which Wikis can be incorporated into the classroom. As teachers we can sometimes be reluctant in allowing our students to participate in a Wiki for we fear that they will misuse the space. We often have this fear that students will abuse and bully via the technology, we block Facebook and YouTube. Surely we must ask ourselves are we looking for a technical solution to a social problem? If the answer is yes then we are headed down the wrong path. We live in a world that is full of dangerous and damaging information which our children can access at a moments notice, but is blocking these sites the answer to the problem?
